“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
Hey everyone! So I’ve been on and I’m currently on vacation. While on it, God has reminded me that rest isn’t something to force. Forcing rest is like pressing the gas pedal in a parked car. I can’t rest unless I change my mindset. I can’t go anywhere in a car unless I change gears.
So I changed gears and followed God’s plan for my vacation and rest. Is it what I planned or expected? No. Is it what I needed? Yes.
I’m with family, helping family, yet also getting help from family. There are days I feel great, there are days I barely feel functional. Yet everyday so far has been a good day because of God. I even recently watched a movie that I didn’t want to watch. I didn’t like it but I learned that it’s okay to not like something, as long as I learn something. I’ve been watching more shows and enjoying them, feeling like a kid. I’m reading and talking about and with God. Im on vacation with God.
So I hope you are having a great summer and hopefully you have, are having, or will have a vacation with and led by God. That you’re not forcing rest and relaxation. I hope you’re breathing and leaning on God. Keeping company with God.
I know rest is difficult. That right now and during rest, everything is not in your control, but it’s okay. Everything is in God’s control. He sees you, knows you, and loves you. As you rest, let go and go to God. He’s got you.
