Day 6: Shunammite Woman and Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel)
and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news].

Now we are talking about shoes. One of the things I have recently learned in life is that a good pair of shoes can be impactful to a person’s way of life. As a warrior especially, these shoes of peace are part of our preparation for standing on the front line. They are not just impactful, they are necessary because we are called to action.
A call to action is not the first thing we think of when we think about peace. Nor is preparation. Though God sends us to that. Just as God sent Elisha to the Shunammmite Woman. A woman who was ready to receive a man of God, and his assistant, but not a child. Nor was she ready to lose that child. Though, she knew who to make haste to, so her son could be saved.
Kamala Khan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is just a teenage girl inspired by the heroes she’s seen and armed with a bracelet that gives her the ability to harden light. Yet she strives to be a hero as well as the young woman her family has raised her to be. It is a hard journey, but she keeps going. She runs out to help, leaving a trail of light behind her. The life of a hero is not what she imagined, but it is what she does.
Peace leaves a trail of light, of God’s light, when our feet carry it. Though to carry that light, we have to be like the Shunammite Woman and make haste to God. Knowing that it will be alright even if we are troubled. Knowing two plus two equals four does. Not get rid of the equation. But God will wipe any slate clean. He take care of us, He will take us to who we need to go, if we go.
The Shunammite Woman did not stop at the assistant. Kamal’s bracelet does not work with everyone (in the show they say it chose her, just like God chooses us). We cannot settle for whatever eases our anxieties or worries at the moment. We cannot settle for quick fixes. Settling ends preparations for blessings.
The blessings will come. So will the troublesome equations. The Shunammite Woman had her son. Kamala gets to meet Captain Marvel. The Shunammite Woman lost her son. Kamala had to learn the decisions heroes make as well as her heroes are people too. Still in the end, the Shunammite Woman got to carry her breathing son to her husband. Ms. Marvel can face threats to the world with the help of others, light trailing behind her.
Peace is beautiful and inspiring, when seen. To be seen, it must be worn. It must go. It will go where God says. It will follow His call. His light of peace will go before us, be with us, and trail behind us. Question is, are you just going to be a spectator of the light or be in it? If you want in, put your shoes on and go.
